Understanding Giving and Receiving – Part 1

Many People misunderstand the operation of giving and receiving. I want to shed some light on the subject trusting that it will bless you tremendously and make you an effective person in the earth.

1 Corinthians 9:10

“…..because the plowman ought to plow in hope, and the thresher ought to thresh in expectation of partaking of the harvest”. (Amplified Bible)

Clearly, there is a harvest that results from practising the Word. There is a materialization of the Word. There is always a production and fruit coming into existence from doing the revealed Word.

In verse 11 of 1 Corinthians 9, we see a revealing equation, let’s call it the “the giving and receiving equation”.

1 Corinthians 9:11

 “If we have sown [the seed of] spiritual good among you, [is it too] much if we reap from your material benefits?”

The Word of God is the only universal seed there is, even though some see money as a universal seed. Jesus said ‘the sower sows the Word’ (Mark 4). And Jesus said if you do not understand this parable of the Kingdom how then will you understand the other parables of the Kingdom? So then the parable of the sower in Mark 4 captures the primary factors and inner workings of the entire Kingdom of God. So if in this parable Jesus says the Word is the seed, then that is what it is. If the seed is the Word then the sower is the one dispensing the Word and not the one giving the material thing e.g money.

In the above scripture, a few things are clear;

a.                  The spiritual seed of the Word sown by the minister (ministry) of the Gospel.

b.                  The resultant harvest of material benefits.

c.                   On both sides of the equation, the seed is the Word; the Word sown by the minister on one hand and the Word received by the believer on the other hand. To the minister the seed is the Word and to the believer the seed is the Word. The harvest is the varied materialisation or fruition of the Word of God when practised. The harvest is not the seed. The seed is the Word. Who is the sower here? Which side of the equation is the sowing side? It is the minister (ministry) of the Gospel side.

The minister gives spiritual good (the revelation of the Word) and receives or shares in the material benefits thereof from the believer.  The believer receives or shares in the spiritual good (revelation of the Word) from the minister and gives material benefits. When you touch people with spiritual good they will in turn touch you with material benefits.
